After shooting multiple weddings and having an outside perspective on the day, I have had the opportunity to witness many beautiful as well as not so smooth wedding days. I won't waste your time and I'll get right into the meats and potatoes of it.
You would be surprised how many people think they can do it all on their own. The average couple can easily book a venue or hire a company to cater food; but what about permits, insurance, weather, etc... Wedding planners have their job for a reason. They know the behind the scenes like no one else. Not to mention how helpful it is on the day of the wedding. I can't tell you how much of a difference it makes when you are enjoying your day because you have someone to keep everything on time and make sure everyone that is supposed to be there is. I have personally filmed weddings where we missed the first part of a speech because we were coming from a different part of the venue with our gear. A wedding planner would've noticed that we weren't set up yet and told them to wait for us. Which in return, the bride and groom would have had better shots of the speeches..
This tip seems so simple and understood but there is nothing that ruins a beautiful wedding day like Uncle Joe's huge ipad in the center of the aisle... WE HAVE SEEN IT. When you invite your closest people to your special day, you want them to be present and a part of the celebration. That is what you hired a great photographer and videographer for, so your family and friends can be there to take it all in.
Imagine this... you have just had the most amazing day of your entire life. You get into the car with your loved one to start your honeymoon and have to stop because all of your vendors think you are making a fast get away. You don't have anything on your mind other than getting out of your monkey suits and finally relaxing. Ideally you would have given any cash or checks to your wedding planner with a list of names and details on them, but if you didn't hire a wedding planner, you can ask someone you trust to take care of the task for you. In the past it was common for the mother of the bride to take care of that. You don't want to be on your honeymoon receiving phone calls and emails because your mind was in la-la land.
You have done so much planning and thought about this day your whole life... So actually enjoy it. They say your wedding day will happen so fast that you won't remember anything except the major details. That is why hiring a great photo and video team will capture everything for you to relive the day and share it with everyone. Sometimes we get so caught up with everything around us that we forget to enjoy life.
